Summerhill Community Park

A group of parents in the Summerhill area have decided to come together to build a playground, adult fitness and picnic area in the grounds of the Community Centre in Summerhill in Co Meath.

This web site gives some background to our plans and current fundraising ideas!

WHY A PLAYGROUND?

  • It is through the benefits of play that so much of the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of children takes place. We wish to facilitate and promote the healthy aspects of outdoor activities for children of all ages in an era when childhood obesity is becoming endemic in our society.

  • It will be free to use, children may access during daylight hours, it will encourage non-sporty children to exercise and participate in outdoor activities. It is non-competitive, will develop and improve social, personal and physical skills and self esteem.

  • A further injection of community spirit by providing an outdoor amenity, which can be used by all.

  • Provide a free social amenity.

  • Create a positive affiliation with The Community Centre. Adds to the facilities of the centre. The area could be used by most of the groups, which use the centre.

  • Provide a much needed playground.

  • Assist tourism by providing additional facilities in the area.

  • Provide a facility which can be used by the surrounding villages and areas

  • The whole park will be for the benefit of the whole community of Summerhill and the surrounding area.

FUNDING

The project will be 75% funding from Leader which supports Ireland's Rural Development Programme. We hope to receive this substantial funding for the project but still will need to raise 25% of the cost of the playground.

IN SUMMARY
A playground picnic and park area would bring the community back to The Community Centre and would help the next generation form a positive alliance with the centre, which they can carry forward into the future.
